In 2007, Borusan Kocabıyık Foundation undertook the construction of the buildings required for the Faculty of Law at Uludağ University located at Gemlik Sunğipek Asım Kocabıyık Campus.
Production came to a halt at Sunğipek Factory in Gemlik due to aging technology in time and was offered within Sümer Holding for sale under privatization in 1997 and was transferred to Tekel in 1998. Believing that high-quality education is the key to reaching the objective of modernity, Borusan Kocabıyık Foundation initiated the first works to convert the Sunğipek Factory into an educational institution. The factory had been opened by Mustafa Kemal Atatürk on February 1, 1938. Located in the 293-acre land, which was transferred to the Uludağ University in 2004, the administrative building of the time was restored and completed in 2007 as deanery. Afterwards, the production building was restored and turned into an education building and delivered to the university. An opening ceremony was held on May 24, 2008 for the Faculty of Law, which started education and training in October of the same year.
The Faculty of Law Complex has a total area of 4,694 square meters consisting of 752 square meters for the Deanery Building, 3,942 square meters for the education building. The faculty also has a court room for live practice. The education building has five classrooms, a computer lab, three halls for the faculty staff, two libraries, a seminar hall, a meeting hall and one hobby room for students. Also, special arrangements were made in the building to meet all the needs of disabled persons, including elevators. The deanery building includes dean’s and assistant dean’s offices as well as 12 offices, two secretary rooms, one meeting hall and one archive.
