Upon request of Uludağ University in February 2005, Borusan Kocabıyık Foundation decided to construct a vocational college. Named and opened on February 1, 1938 by Atatürk, the Sunğipek Factory was allocated to Uludağ University in 2004, after which the construction works were initiated.

Construction of a 2,200-square meter single-floor storehouse as two-floor in accordance with the implementation projects prepared by the Uludağ University in October 2005 were initiated by Borusan Kocabıyık Foundation. The construction was completed in 2006 and education started at the same year. Uludağ University Gemlik Sunğipek Asım Kocabıyık Vocational College was delivered to Uludağ University on November 14, 2006.

The education building consists of 11 classrooms, seven equipped laboratories, meeting, resting, drawing, reading and seminar rooms, a library, cafeteria and sufficient number of offices for the teaching staff.

Continuing its educational activities with increasing number of programs and students each year, the Vocational College provides education and training activities through seven programs. The number of students enrolled in Garden Agriculture, Food Technology, Map and Land Survey, Computer Programming, Foreign Trade, Maritime and Port Management and Machinery programs has reached 700.
