The Republic of Turkey, Ministry of National Education Borusan Asım Kocabıyık Anatolian Vocational High School is one of the most important projects of the foundation and the 9th President Esteemed Süleyman Demirel and BKV President Asım Kocabıyık broke ground at the ceremony held for the start of the construction. The high school started education in the 1998 - 1999 academic year. Its status has been changed at the start of the 2009 academic year as the technical and industrial vocational high school, and its name has been changed to Borusan Asım Kocabıyık Technical and Industrial Vocational High School. The school was founded in Beylikdüzü which became a crowded residential area in the recent years.
With a total area of 24,000 square meters, including an indoor area of 10,000 square meters, the total cost of the school estimates USD 5.3 million. Its project was designed by Master Architect Yıldırım Sağlıkova and the school contains 21 classrooms, 17 workshops and four laboratories as well as a library and painting classroom.
The school’s 1,100-square meter indoor gym and the 920-square meter multi-purpose meeting and education hall with a 400-seat capacity also meet the requirements of the region.
Taking into consideration the current gap in vocational education, the school sets an example for investments in this field. The school started education in its first year with four English and two Germany preparatory classes and in 2006, the school has changed its status as technical high school and removed the preparatory class although the four-year education period was not changed. The foreign language courses given in the preparatory class were divided in four-year education period. The school has three departments: Information Technologies, Electrical-Electronics Technologies and Motor Vehicles Technology.
All details required for modern vocational education were considered and implemented with care at Borusan Asım Kocabıyık Technical and Industrial Vocational High School. The school was also planned in its architectural design stage for disabled students and ease of access has been provided in the building for such students.
The school with a capacity of 730 students also offered evening education opportunity for Automotive Department students of Beykent University Vocational College between 2002 and 2006.
Considering the fact that modern buildings and equipment are not sufficient to raise qualified graduates, projects were developed for self-improvement of trainers by the Ministry of National Education and the regional directorates. Borusan Asım Kocabıyık Technical and Industrial Vocational High School received the ISO 9002 Quality Certificate in 2002 and became the first ISO certified official school in the province of Istanbul.
EFQM Excellence Model studies were initiated in 2009 together with KalDer (Quality Association). Following the trainings where all teachers participated, the studies were initiated and passed the first stage after earning the Determination in Excellence Certificate in November 2010. KalDer works still continues.
The school’s basketball team is showing a successful performance. The annual first aid courses and the search and rescue civil defense trainings are the most important scouting activities performed. Also, tour and camping activities in nature are organized.
