KOCAELİ UNIVERSITY HEREKE BORUSAN CAMPUS

The initiative of Borusan Kocabıyık Foundation for supporting Kocaeli University which was impacted by the 1999 Gulf Earthquake started with the visit of the Foundation President Asım Kocabıyık to Prof. Dr. Baki Komsuoğlu, former Rector of Kocaeli University. The initiative resulted in the Foundation assuming the construction of two student dormitories and one college building at Hereke, and the name of the investment area was named as Kocaeli University Hereke Borusan Campus.

Kocaeli University Hereke Borusan Campus consists of three units established over a land of 3552 square meters. Besides Asım Kocabıyık Vocational College, a girls dormitory with a capacity of 108 and a boys dormitory with a capacity of 108 were constructed within the same campus for the accommodation needs of students. Zehra Nurhan Kocabıyık Girls Dormitory and Asım Kocabıyık Boys Dormitory have been provided to the service of students with separate rooms for three with bathroom, with wooden furniture, carpets and as well as a dining hall of the building.

The Vocational College includes four classrooms, three vocational and one computer laboratory, a library, a 170-seat conference hall and a cafeteria. The Construction Equipment Technology Program which was initiated in the 2001-2002 academic year at the Vocational College was the first in its field in Turkey at that time. With the opportunities improved as of 2003 - 2004 academic year, the school today has also machinery and construction programs and these 3 programs have daytime and evening programs.

The cost of the project was USD 2 million, and it was realized with the contributions of Borusan Group employees, domestic and foreign customers and Borusan friends thanks to the support of Borusan Group subsidiaries at an amount of USD 310,000.
